Good Bye and New Job
(Sent out on 29th November 2005)
Dear colleagues, dear friends,
As you probably know, Czech Green party congress in late Semtember withdrew me from the position of chairperson.
Attached, you can find English translation of my key congress speeches: the “State of the Party” report, and my final good-bye speech.
I also want to announce my new job. Since December, I will start working for Greenpeace as a regional coordinator for energy/climate/nuclear campaigns in Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. I have decided to accept the solid offer from Greenpeace after serious consideration.
The hot issues in this area are deepening climate changes and attempts of industry for nuclear revival, as well as push for sustainable alternatives and the vision of thoughtful energy policy. Although these are things that the Green Party should pick up, I currently found more space for myself, better helpfulness and resources for this work with Greenpeace.
I also plan to keep some time to continue with energy oriented work inside Czech Republic, under WISE (World Information Service on Energy) relay that I have established in Brno.
I am convinced that my new job will, although in different way, contribute to our joint efforts in establishing Green policies. But as you can read in my congress speeches, I also decided to remain as an ordinary member in the party, although for the coming months, I will rather be a passive observer of its development.
If you wish, you can still contact me at my telephone +420-604- 207305 or email
jan.beranek@ecn.cz. You can also find me at my website www.janberanek.cz, although they are now only in Czech - so probably only my photographs will be understandable to you.I will be happy to meet occasionally with you and wish a lot of success to everyone,
Jan Beranek
NB: After September Congress, I hoped that the internal suicidal struggle will stop, therefore I did not provoke further conflicts and largerly withdrew myself, for the time being finding my new position as passive observer. However, soon after congress I was accused by new chair, Martin Bursik, for personal responsibility for more that two- millions’ damage.
I consider this accusation to be entirelly absurd, both because it can (and had been) proved in clear numbers that the economy of our party has dramatically improved between 2003 and 2005, and also because it is Martin now who is closely cooperating with old-time party officials really responsible for growing of huge debt of almost 14 millions between 1995 and 2003; he even sent the former member of presidency who was expelled from the party for proven multimillion machinations, as a negotiator with the party creditor (this ill-fated attempt failed, and the upset creditor called for confiscation of our party in September, causing additonal expenses that are now being blamed on me).
In order to defend myself, I wrote a position paper and documented in detail and evidence that such accusation is entirelly unbased. (This paper is only in Czech, but if needed, I can arrange English translation too.)
The end of this sad story is that my defence paper was repeatedly refused to be distributed by email to members who previously got the inacurate information from Martin Bursik.
I did not want to burden you with this issue, but this seems to be the only way to at least somewhat defend myself from rumours.
