Final speech

Final speech given at the Green Party congress in Pardubice on Saturday 24th Sep 2005

Thank you everybody for more than two years long cooperation when i was chairing our party. This period has been a crucial and new experience for me.

The party has undergone broad transformation during these two years - and i consider all these changes to be clearly possitive. We have succeeded to consolidate party's economy and bring it from de facto bancruptcy to possitive numbers in coming year, we formulated and adopted complex and progressive political programme „Vision of ecological democracy“, we multiplied voting preferences and, in the eyes of citizens and media, to bring it to the very entrance of the parliament. We won the historically first mandate in Senate with our candidate Jaromir Stetina, so we did got elected for the first time into regional parliament in 2004.

For all these successes, let me first to express acknowledgment to Jakub Patocka, without whom our reform of the Green Party would not even start.

Further on, i thank to members of the two presidencies who cooperated with me constructivelly: Jana Ulbrychova, Pavel Brzobohaty, Jana Drapalova, Milan Smrz, Tomas Tozicka and Jan Korytar.

I also want to thank to the members of the General Control Committee - Dita Horova, Andrea Herbrychova, Tomas Adam and Frantisek Kristek, who also played a crucial role in maping and healing of the troubled party's economy, and in the difficult times of internal struggles were seeing to adherence of rules and right-mindedness.

Namely i wish to thank to the senate election team of Jaromir Stetina, whose success I do consider to be one of the break-through moments. The election manager was Daniela Matejkova, and her close colleagues were Matej Stropnicky, Jiri and Olga Lom, Petr Safarik and others.

I wish to thank also to many people in the regions and in our local organizations, whose list would be too long to read here. I hope that I will have opportunity to thank them in person in coming weeks and months.

Last but not least, I want to thank also to my rivals, because I recognized the veracity of the verse from a Czech singer Raduza: “The Best Teacher / By Intent or Unintended / Was My Enemy”. And I have learned a hell lot.

Let me now say few words about the future. Some of my colleagues were blaming me for not fighting at full force to hold the chairmaneship until the very end. Others were criticizing me for not giving up earlier. And some others are now considering the plan to create a new political structure, some left the party and politics, some decided to stay.

Everybody has his mind and takes decisions freely, and that is good, I do not blame anyone for that. Therefore, I also hope that nobody will blame me for my opinion and my decision.

I decided to stay in the Green Party. I want to watch where it goes, and make warnings when I will consider the direction to be wrong. At this moment, I am primarily concerned about the quality of our own political culture, about the consistency of our potlical programme, and about the election strategy. After all, there are issues I have talked about earlier today.

Once more, thank you.
